Liaison College, Kingston Campus celebrated its 10th Year Anniversary at 28 Bath Road on November 8, 2009!
Liaison College was founded in 1996 to address the growing demand in the hospitality industry for professionally trained chef graduates. Liaison College has 10 campuses and is Ontario’s largest trainer of chefs and cooks! It has just been voted one of the top 10 chef colleges in the world.
The main premise of career colleges is to provide industry specific vocational training that leads directly to a well paying career. Liaison College’s intensive, short term, modular diploma programs are designed to do just that!
On November 8, 1999, Wanda MacDonald began as the Chef Instructor for Liaison College, Kingston Campus. On November 10th, 2000, she bought out one of the partners and in October 2001, she bought out the remaining 2 partners and moved to her present location at 28 Bath Road.
As the years progressed and Wanda moved to her present location, her husband David MacDonald, also a Red Seal Chef, started assisting on a regular basis until 4 years ago when he joined the Liaison team permanently as a Chef Instructor.
Chef Wanda MacDonald states that the food service industry was in her blood from an early age when she worked in her father’s restaurant as a student. She started her professional career in Peterborough at the age of 18 when she took over the management of a banquet hall, serving 600 people a night. She moved to Cobourg to raise a family, and worked as the Chef and Manager of The Dressler House, a renowned fine dining establishment. After it closed due to a fire, she became Dining Room Manager at a luxury resort in the Muskokas, The Sherwood Inn. She and her husband, Chef David MacDonald then moved on to open their own restaurant in Roseneath, north of Cobourg. When they came to Kingston with their young family Wanda took over as Director of Catering at the Days Inn and Conference Centre. Chef Wanda holds her Hotel Restaurant Management Diploma and her Red Seal.
She began her teaching career in 1995, teaching Hotel Management at the Toronto School of Business and the culinary programs at Clarke College.
Wanda MacDonald states, “My career goal has always been in the hospitality industry and it always will be. I am very fortunate to have met so many like-minded, passionate people and I am thrilled to be a part of this great Kingston community!”
Wanda has truly demonstrated her commitment to the Kingston community by donating to many charitable organizations including Martha’s Table, Child Haven, Kingston Partners for Safe Community, March of Dimes Fundraisers, Kingston Humane Society, United Way, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and most recently Hospice Kingston-Chili Fest. Actually, during this year’s Chili Fest, the students at her campus won the Most Original Chili competition.
In addition to training hundreds of students in the regular college setting, she has facilitated training programs for Canadian Mental Health, Ontario Works, Frontenac and Pittsburgh Institutions.
Wanda and Dave MacDonald along with their Kingston team thank you for your continued support!
